Bohm dialogue groups in London
A Bohm dialogue is a group conversation with no agenda, no leader and nothing to decide. Ten to forty people sit in a circle and talk, and the practice is to notice your own assumptions and reactions as they arise — to hold them up for the group to look at rather than defend them.
It comes from the physicist David Bohm, who saw thought as a collective process and dialogue as a way of watching it work. London groups usually meet for two to three hours on a weekday evening or weekend afternoon, often opening with a short introduction for newcomers.

Common questions
- What happens in a Bohm dialogue?
- The group sits in a circle and a facilitator opens the space, sometimes with a theme or a reading, then steps back. Anyone can speak; there is no turn-taking and no goal to reach. Long silences are normal, and the facilitator may pause the room to reflect on what the conversation itself is doing.
- How is it different from a debate or a discussion group?
- A debate tries to win and a discussion tries to reach a conclusion. A Bohm dialogue does neither: the aim is to suspend judgement — your own as much as anyone's — and see the shared assumptions underneath what people say.
- Do I need to have read Bohm first?
- No. Introductory sessions explain the principles at the start, and most groups welcome people who've never heard of it. If you want to read ahead, Bohm's short book On Dialogue is the usual starting point.
- How much does a Bohm dialogue cost in London?
- Across the 7 Bohm dialogue listings in London we've seen over the last three months and coming up, the typical ticket is £4, and most cost between £4 and £10.
